Mormon church allows public in new Gilbert temple

GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is allowing the public to get a look at its new temple in Gilbert, a Phoenix suburb.

The tours will be available during an open house period that begins Saturday and runs through Feb. 15, excluding Sundays. Reservations are required.

KTVK-TV (http://bit.ly/1dyKvYN ) reports that construction began on the 85,000-square-foot temple in November 2010, and it is now the tallest building in Gilbert.

The church invited interfaith leaders to tour the temple, which is one of four in Arizona. The others are located in Mesa, Snowflake and Thatcher. Another is under construction in Phoenix and one is planned for Tucson.

The Gilbert temple will be dedicated March 2.
